BYD will introduce the next generation of its blade-shaped batteries in 2025,Desi Tadka (2020) Hindi Web Series which could enable its electric vehicles to have a longer driving range and service life, Cao Shuang, the managing director of BYD’s Central Asia and European Auto Sales Division, recently said in an interview with Chinese state broadcaster CGTN. BYD’s so-called blade battery comes with a lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) makeup and a thin and long form factor, boasting better thermal stability and stronger resistance to collisions than lithium-ion batteries that use cobalt or nickel and enable longer range but at a higher cost. It was first launched in 2020 and has been adopted by BYD vehicles and supplied to a select group of other automakers such as state-owned FAW Group and Changan. The Chinese EV giant had also planned to supply batteries to Tesla, executive vice president Lian Yubo told CGTN in June, 2022, although no details of any deal have been made public by the two companies since then.
