The statement was in response to a Washington Post report that Sessions met the Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the U.S. presidential campaign, despite telling his confirmation hearing he had "no communications with the Russians."

Sarah Isgur Flores, who is director of public affairs at the Department of Justice, confirmed to the media that the meetings took place but denied any connection to the election campaign.

“I never met with any Russian officials to discuss issues of the campaign,” Sessions’ statement said. “I have no idea what this allegation is about. It is false.”
